Tired of trying to get your site to work in IE6?
I think the guys behind http://iedeathmarch.org/ have the right idea. As most web designer types on it can be a real pain in the backside to get your site that took you enough hours to fix in IE7, Firefox 2 or 3 and Safari to then work in IE6.
Myself, I’ve had to introduce so many ie6.css styles I try not to think about it any more. I almost rock myself to sleep and night.
As the guys state, Even Nintendo’s Gamecube which lasted all off a year if that is younger than IE6 and Nintendo were clever enough to kill it off when they noticed the public weren’t buying them.
Mr Stocks has also clamped down by stating any client work will have IE6 support for an optional extra. Which is a neat little idea. Is it really that hard to update to IE7 or move over to Firefox maybe even Opera?
I know, from this day forth any of my projects, including the Web Developers Conference won’t support IE6 when new designs, fixes come along and it only just works now.The only problem I see is how do we promote switching to other browsers? Do we stick huge signs over our sites stating they need to upgrade to IE7 or something? Do we remove all styling and leave IE6 users with a text site? Or will we break under the pressure of having to support IE6 for life?
